Halo Keyboard · last updated 25 September 2026
Word suggestions, grammar and spelling checks run on the device, using its own dictionary. Keystrokes are never logged, never stored off the device and never sent anywhere. Halo works fully with no account.
Full Access is optional. Without it, typing, suggestions, grammar and spelling all work. iOS requires it for three optional extras: the microphone (voice typing), the clipboard (sending a sticker), and reading the phrases and stickers you saved in the Halo app. Turning it on does not change what happens to your typing.
Voice typing needs a connected Gossip account and your consent in the app. When you use it, the recording and up to 600 characters of the text around the cursor are sent to our server, and from there to Google's Gemini model, to be understood and written out. They are used to produce the text and are not kept. Each use counts toward your account's free monthly requests.
An account is optional. If you create or connect one, we store what signing in needs: your phone number, your name and, if you use Sign in with Apple or give one, your email address. On Android, a Halo account also stores a salted hash of its password (never the password itself). A Gossip password is sent to Gossip to sign you in and is not stored by this app.
Translation languages and optional on-device models are downloaded from Google (ML Kit) and Hugging Face, who see the request as any web request. Nothing about your typing is attached. Translation then runs on the phone.
Everything the keyboard learns stays on the phone and is removed with the app. To delete your account, open Halo, tap the menu, open your account and tap Delete account. The steps, and what is deleted, are on this page. You can also write to the address below from the number or email on the account.
